projections - a multimedia art exhibition / chillout event. the one and only djn introduced zapanese zen & fourthcity funk styles to restless natives at a strange multimedia event in a large lithuanian warehouse. armed with freshly cooked downtempo dubplates, some zapan(dot)wav files, + the new *fourthcity* slideshow [stay_tuned], n experimented on eastern europeans in the know. peep the flyer here. djn said this:

technical difficulties were the mood an hour before start time. the vcr would not play a tape; *no input found* was flashing on the screen. m/play was stomping around like a mad man while n was calmly filming the entire construction. the third vcr was a success and the show began a little behind schedule. the floor was lined with giant foam mattresses and covered with long rolls of white plastic. there were three slide projectors from russia [circa 1970] and one laptop projector that circled through a slide show containing all artists' contributed work. last was the vcr projector; this was a crude device but none_the_less very effective. it contributed twenty_five percent of the mood while music controlled the rest. the music was wonderful, especially your wonderful, wonderful tracks, which by the way went off at the event... i had so many people talking to me about that louis armstrong track... i could send the crowd to sleep with a lazy beat or wake them up with a few *cuts + clicks* or destroy all relaxation with static that built and built and built until the walls were falling in. then silence. the true headz stayed up all night and at six in morning helped clean up and savor the splinter in time that was projections. m/play will be sending me the information needed to add a brand_new and powerful artist to the fourthcity collective. we have decided to organize another event of the same magnitude... m/play, zapan, and djn on the line up - almost too much for a kid to handle... seattle 2003?

 

money + fame:

on wednesday october 16th gabriel del villar florentino of seattle washington usa purchased fourthcitysquares#1, a painted canvas by zapan (2000). everyone here at the fourthcity studios was sad to see it go, but we all know *gabriel* will take good care of it...

 

party @ the new fourthcity studios in seattle washington:

hello loyal fans. the party here at +fourthcitystudios+ was off the hook. many many people came out for the festivities. hideki & dj_kamui gave the fourthcity decks their worst thrashing ever: kamui scratched alongsite *neti_neti* at 1440bpm and treated the afterhours crowd to an impromptu scratch / juggle / contortionist duet w/ hideki. the bleep?commando did static hypno_gymnastics for a while, later letting the bleeps loose from the patented fourthcity bleep_o_matic. awww jeah. cory_c a.k.a. brother_goodtaste a.k.a. mutagenic gave a spirited performance on the toy keyboard, simultaneously executing dangerous toe_pedal acrobatics. and yrs_truly kept it all alive by jumping up and down in a frenzy, triggering previously composed loops / sounds / static from the centrally_located fourthcity_terminal. on the art tip, mike_foster brought by a freshly minted canvas prepared specially for the drunken festivities. also, my very own moms [debbie_h] donated 13 framed photos & 6 chunks of poetry to the fourthcity gallery to commemorate the event. no limos were spotted, but we did break several laws & the elevator. anyway, have a look at some photos & the flyer from the party. out. z.
